Ali Benryane is a seasoned expert in sustainable development and environmental policy, with a focus on biodiversity, climate change, and circular economy. With over 15 years of experience, he has effectively integrated sustainability into economic and policy frameworks, supported by a PhD in environmental governance.
Since January 2020, Ali has served as CEO of SDI Global Consult, leading the implementation of multilateral environment agreements (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD) projects in Morocco, Canada, Rwanda, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other countries. Ali is known for his ability to lead complex projects, his diplomatic skills, and his extensive international networks. He adopts an inclusive and collaborative approach, fostering innovative solutions to support sustainable development.
Prior to his work at SDI, Ali coordinated several projects for UNEP, UNDP and UNIDO over 10 years on the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS, the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and on green economy transition for the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE). His strong knowledge of project management and key donors processes (GEF, GCF, CFC, the EU, AFD, etc.) make Ali a strong leadership asset in project implementation, ensuring top-tier quality control on delivery and reporting.
Among other responsibilities, Ali is also co-founder and Chair of the Board of Directors for CAP Développement Durable, a Canadian NGO which specializes in youth empowerment and the involvement of young professionals in the fight against climate change.
Ali is a scuba-diving enthusiast and football fanatic; on his free time, he is often found searching and planning for tropical destinations to explore or animating vigorous debates surrounding his favorite team.
