SDI Global Consult provided technical expertise to support EonD's Client, Booz Allen Hamilton Saudi Arabia LCC, in delivering a comprehensive scope of work focused on implementing the Nagoya Protocol, related to genetic resources in Saudi Arabia. The services provided by SDI Global Consult included supporting a benchmarking exercise of three countries that have adopted similar protocols and deriving key lessons in the context of KSA. SDI also conducted a current state assessment to identify key challenges and gaps to implementing the Protocol. This included identifying sectors that will be impacted by the introduction of the protocols, analyzing the current institutional setup, reviewing the regulatory framework, and assessing the nationwide capabilities to implement the Protocol. SDI synthesized key challenges and gaps to implementing the protocols and identified the requirements to implement them, such as regulatory amendments, changes to institutional set up, developing IRCC, and establishing an ABS clearing house. In addition, SDI assessed the national costs associated withthe requirements and supported a cost-benefit analysis to assess the socio-economic impact on the country. Lastly, SDI helped develop an action plan for capability building and awareness-raising to support the successful implementation of the Protocol.
